About the Manufacturer Alan-1, Inc.

Alan-1 has been engineering licensed arcade cabinets from its factory in Tooele, Utah since 2017. The company works directly with IP holders including Atari to produce genuine, original arcade releases rather than licensed skins over generic hardware.

Alan-1's custom Video Arcade System and 400 i/oT input-output board are designed and built in-house, and every cabinet carries an ETL listing for the United States and Canada. Owning an Alan-1 machine means owning a piece of American arcade manufacturing at a moment when almost none of it is left.

A Genuine Licensed Atari Arcade Game, Not an Emulator

Asteroids Recharged Arcade Edition is a brand new title, built specifically for the arcade. It is not a port of the 2021 console release and it is not a multicade loaded with a ROM.

Alan-1 rebuilt the game from the ground up with input from casual players and world-record classic Asteroids competitors, holding closer to how the original arcade game handled shots and UFO behaviour. It is the fifth Asteroids to reach arcades, following the 1979 original, Asteroids Deluxe, Space Duel and Blasteroids.

The result is 256 waves of escalating asteroid battles, including Challenge waves with unique enemies and situations, a bonus multiplier that builds with consecutive hits and resets on a miss, and a full power-up system earned by shooting the giant purple dome UFO.

The original score was composed by Megan McDuffee, and voice-overs are delivered by Captain Ace, who guides and comments on performance throughout.

Two-Player Co-op With Individual Scoring

Two players blast rocks simultaneously from their own control stations, rather than taking turns as the original required. Each player tracks their own score while cooperating to survive the wave together.

Atari describes it as playing local co-op with individual scoring, to see who is best at defending the galaxy together. The competitive and cooperative elements run in parallel, which keeps both players engaged from wave one through to wave 256.

For operators, two engaged players at the same machine means longer session times and stronger revenue per square foot.

Full Power-Up Arsenal, Tuned for Arcade Play

Eleven distinct power-ups are available, earned by shooting the purple dome UFO, each timed with a visible colour drain on the ship so players always know what they have left. Power-ups include Spreadburst, Tri-Burst, Bi-Way, Tri-Way, Exploding Bullets, Mega Laser, Orbiting Bullets, Slow Time, Rapid Fire, Trailing Bullets and Deflector.

Players must fly to collect a power-up rather than having it magnetised to them, and on Expert difficulty the invincibility window on pickup shrinks to almost nothing. That single tuning decision changes the skill ceiling dramatically on higher settings.

Three selectable difficulty levels, Beginning, Advanced and Expert, are chosen at the start of every game, so the machine serves a first-timer and a seasoned player equally without any operator intervention.

Five-Button Control Panel, Colour-Coded and LED Illuminated

Each player station replicates the exact five-button layout of the original Asteroids arcade cabinet. All five buttons are four-pin D-LED illuminated pushbuttons, colour-coded by function: Rotate Left and Rotate Right in blue, Thrust in green, Fire in red and Hyperspace in white. A Volcanic start button sits on each player's upper deck.

LED illumination is not decorative trim on these controls. It makes the function of every button readable in a dark barcade environment at a glance, which reduces the learning curve for new players dropping in a coin.

Wind, Rumble and Knocker, Physical Effects Synced to Gameplay

The Pro ships with the full haptics package. Built-in wind effect fans activate each time a player presses Thrust. Large and small shaker motors deliver control panel rumble keyed to in-game events. An internal pinball knocker fires in sync with the action. Alan-1 refers to these collectively as the cabinet's toys.

Every one of these effects is present on the Pro. The effects are individually switchable from the operator menu, with separate on or off settings for the knocker and shakers, so operators can tune intensity for their venue.

The difference between the Pro and the Pro+ is a single lighting element: the Pro+ adds RGB LED T-molding along the cabinet edges in place of the Pro's passive purple T-molding. The haptics, the game, the audio and the cabinet are identical across both models.

RGB Monitor Surround Lighting and Backlit Marquee

The Pro is a fully lit cabinet. RGB diffuser LEDs surround the monitor and sit behind the bezel, changing colour in sync with gameplay.

The marquee is backlit by a string of white COB LEDs shining through the back of the marquee plex, rated at roughly 200 lumens each. Control panel lighting, front lights, coin door lighting and player down lights are each individually switchable.

A global Light Toys Brightness setting runs from 20 to 100 percent, giving the operator precise control over how the machine presents in a brightly lit family entertainment centre versus a dim arcade bar.

The one lighting element the Pro does not include is the RGB LED T-molding along the cabinet edges. That trim is specific to the Pro+ and above. Every other lighting element on the Pro is the same.

32-Inch HD Display and 2.1 Channel Audio

The monitor is a 32-inch 1920 x 1080p HD panel in landscape orientation, connected to the game PC by HDMI. A 35-inch protective glass panel with bezel and printed artwork frames the screen and covers the surround, protecting the display in commercial environments.

Audio is a 2.1 channel Telstar system: two speakers behind the speaker panel plus a dedicated subwoofer, driven by an internal amplifier. The vector-style visuals replicate the crisp, clean look of the original Asteroids, and the subwoofer ensures every shot and explosion lands with physical weight.

MLeS Online Tournaments, Free and Subscription-Free

Internet connectivity is free. There is no monthly fee, no subscription and no licence cost. The machine connects by wired Ethernet using a customer-supplied CAT5e or CAT6 cable, or by built-in WiFi using the Alan-1 Game Grid operator app to configure the hotspot from a phone.

Players scan the QR code shown after pressing start to log into the Major League eSports (MLeS) app on Android or iOS.

MLeS gives them a nationwide leaderboard, League Points toward the annual Alan-1 World Championships, the ability to continue from the last wave reached, and push notifications when someone at a different venue beats their score, naming the location so they come back. That last feature is a direct driver of repeat visits.

Connected machines are listed for free on Videogames.org, Alan-1.com, Mles.com and in the MLeS game finder map. On registration, Alan-1 runs a one-time localised Instagram and Facebook promotion announcing the machine at the venue, at no cost to the operator. The operator app also includes a free first advertising run paid for by Alan-1.

Secrets, Comics and Lifetime Software Updates

An official Asteroids Recharged comic book is integrated directly into the game, with panels woven into the experience. Hidden secrets in the spirit of the Konami Code are unlocked by specific button sequences on the MLeS QR screen after inserting a credit. Alan-1 notes that players recording themselves discovering new sequences has become organic marketing for venues that host the machine.

Free lifetime software updates are delivered over the internet connection, confirmed by Atari. There is no fee and no expiry. The game released with 256 waves and the full power-up roster, and future updates arrive automatically to any connected machine.

Built in the USA and Sized for Real Locations

The cabinet is manufactured in Tooele, Utah and is ETL listed for US and Canadian voltage. At 29 and one quarter inches deep, it rolls through a standard double doorway on its built-in 3-inch casters, which matters when installing into a bar, barcade, or FEC with limited access. Alan-1 calls this out specifically in the manual.

Two rear handles and two leg levelers complete the mobility package. The casters must be raised before moving the machine to prevent them catching on raised floor surfaces, and Alan-1 requires a minimum of two people for any move. At 300 lbs installed, that is the right call.

Deluxe vs. Pro and Pro+: Choosing the Right Cabinet for Your Location

The Asteroids Recharged line comes in three configurations. All three run the identical game with the same haptics package, the same 2.1-channel audio with subwoofer, the same MLeS connectivity, and the same eTicket redemption support. The choice between them is a floor space and throughput decision, not a feature decision.

Assembly

The Asteroids Recharged Arcade Edition PRO arrives fully assembled. There is no cabinet build required. Setup typically takes around 15 to 20 minutes and consists of unpacking, inspection and a connection check rather than assembly work.

Before first power up, open the rear door and confirm that all internal cables are still seated after transit: the HDMI cable between the mainboard and monitor, the monitor power cable, the audio amplifier power cable, the speaker cables to the upper speakers and the subwoofer, the USB cables between the mainboard and the I/O board, and the edge connector from the I/O board to the control panel. This takes a few minutes and protects against any connector movement during freight.

Before plugging in, locate the red voltage slider inside the power distribution box at the cabinet base and confirm it is set to the correct voltage for your supply, either 115V or 230V. Setting this incorrectly before powering on can damage the machine. Use a small screwdriver for this step.

To cut the shipping straps, a razor or utility blade is needed. If connecting by wired Ethernet rather than WiFi, have a CAT5e or CAT6 cable ready. Cup holders are a separately sold Alan-1 accessory compatible with the Pro cabinet and are worth considering at the point of order. The full service and operations manual is available as a PDF download from Alan-1.

The cabinet ships by freight at 335 lbs boxed. Inspect the carton carefully before signing the Bill of Lading. Note any damage on the driver's paperwork, photograph it, and refuse a cabinet that arrives visibly damaged rather than signing, as signing transfers responsibility for repair costs. Concealed damage must be reported within 48 hours of delivery with photos and original packaging retained.

Register the cabinet through the Alan-1 Operators app within 15 days of receipt.
