Frequently Asked Questions - Alan-1 Arcade Cabinets
About the Machines
WHO MAKES THESE CABINETS?
Alan-1, Inc., an American manufacturer building arcade cabinets since 2017 at their Area 52 factory in Tooele, Utah. Every machine is assembled by hand, including the in-house Video Arcade System electronics and i/oT input output boards, and each cabinet is ETL listed for the United States and Canada.
ARE THESE BRAND-NEW MACHINES?
Yes. Every cabinet is brand new and built to order at the Alan-1 factory. These are not used, refurbished or converted machines.
ARE THESE OFFICIAL ATARI GAMES?
The Atari titles are officially licensed. Asteroids Recharged and Missile Command Recharged are built by Alan-1 in collaboration with Atari. Avian Knights is Alan-1's own original title, not a licence.
ARE THESE REMAKES OF THE ORIGINAL ARCADE GAMES?
Not exactly. The Recharged titles are modern re-imaginings rather than straight ports. They keep the core mechanic and the control layout of the originals, then add co-op play, power-ups, physical cabinet toys and new game modes. The Asteroids Recharged Pro reproduces the exact five-button layout of the 1979 cabinet, and Missile Command Recharged keeps the trackball and three-button control scheme.
HAVE THESE MACHINES WON ANY AWARDS?
Yes. The Asteroids Recharged Pro is the IAAPA 2024 Brass Ring Award winner for Best New Product, the amusement industry's highest product honour.
Editions & Differences
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRO, PRO+ AND DELUXE?
The game itself is identical across all three. What changes is the cabinet, the screen and the effects package.

Pro is the two-player upright with a 32-inch HD screen, one coin door and a 31-inch wide footprint that rolls through a standard doorway.

Pro+ is the same cabinet with the full lighting and haptics package added. Exactly what that includes varies by title, so check the product page for the model you want.

Deluxe is the large-format cabinet with a 55-inch HD screen, two coin doors, more player stations and a 51.5-inch width. It weighs 525 lbs against 300 lbs for a Pro.
WHAT DOES THE PRO+ ADD OVER THE PRO?
The Pro+ adds the enhanced lighting and physical effects package. On Missile Command Recharged Pro+ that means RGB LED trackballs in place of black, dynamic RGB LED T-molding, a wind blower per player, small and large shaker motors and an internal pinball knocker. The package differs between titles, so compare the specification tables on the Asteroids Recharged Pro+ and Avian Knights Pro+ pages for the exact contents.
HOW MANY PLAYERS CAN PLAY AT ONCE?
It depends on the cabinet. The Pro and Pro+ uprights seat two simultaneous players. The Asteroids Recharged Deluxe supports three, and the Avian Knights Deluxe supports four, all at the same time on one machine.
IS THE GAME CONTENT DIFFERENT BETWEEN EDITIONS?
No. The software is identical across Pro, Pro+ and Deluxe. Nothing is removed from the cheaper cabinet. You are paying for screen size, player stations, lighting and physical effects, not for game content.
IS THE DELUXE WORTH IT FOR A COMMERCIAL VENUE?
It depends on your floor. The Deluxe clears queues faster because three or four people play at once instead of two, and the 55-inch screen draws attention from across a room. For a home game room or a tighter route location, the Pro or Pro+ gives you the same game in a footprint that fits through a standard double doorway.
Online Play & MLeS
WHAT IS MLES?
Major League eSports MLeS shield logo
Major League eSports is Alan-1's own connected tournament platform, with a free mobile app on Android and iOS. Players compete on global leaderboards, daily tournaments and achievements, and there is an annual MLeS World Championship held every January in Utah with cash prizes.
IS THERE A SUBSCRIPTION OR MONTHLY FEE?
No. Internet connectivity, MLeS tournament play, the operator app and the player app are all free. There is no monthly fee, no subscription and no licence cost. This is unusual in the category, where connected features are normally a paid add-on.
DO THE MACHINES NEED AN INTERNET CONNECTION TO PLAY?
No. The games are fully playable offline straight out of the box. A connection is needed for MLeS leaderboards, tournaments, remote audits and software updates. You can connect by built-in WiFi or by wired Ethernet using a CAT5e or CAT6 cable, which you supply.
DO THE MACHINES GET SOFTWARE UPDATES?
Yes, free for the life of the machine, delivered over the internet connection. There is no fee and no paid content plan. Updates are managed through the Game Grid operator app.
DOES CONNECTING THE MACHINE HELP MY VENUE?
Connected machines are listed for free on Videogames.org, Alan-1.com, Mles.com and in the MLeS game finder map, so players can locate your venue. On registration Alan-1 also runs a one-time localised Instagram and Facebook promotion announcing the machine at your location. When a player's score is beaten, the app brings them back to your venue by name.
Technology Inside
WHAT HARDWARE RUNS THESE GAMES?
Alan-1 builds its own Video Arcade System, or VAS, rather than using an off-the-shelf board. These are the main components:

Component Description
VAS MCP (Motherboard) ASUS-brand motherboard that operates the game
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 6-core, 12-thread, with Wraith Stealth cooler
RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws V 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 desktop memory
Wi-Fi Card M.2 format WiFi board; the WiFi antenna plugs into this
PCB Standoffs Raise the motherboard off the cabinet base to prevent grounding issues
VAS Energy Distribution Unit Main power supply (PDB-JH-01)

Desktop-class parts mean a technician can diagnose and service the machine with standard PC knowledge, rather than waiting on a proprietary board.
CAN I MODIFY OR UPGRADE THE HARDWARE?
No. Modifying the i/oT input output board or any VAS component voids the warranty. Firmware changes outside the official update path through the Game Grid app are not supported.
Revenue, Coin-Op & Free Play
ARE THESE COIN-OPERATED OR FREE PLAY?
Both. Every cabinet ships with a coin door and can also be switched to free play from the operator menu with a single toggle. That makes the same machine suitable for a home game room and for a commercial route.
WHAT ARE THE DEFAULT COIN SETTINGS?
Coin mechs arrive preset to 25 cents with a default of four coins per credit. Both are fully adjustable through the operator menu. The Pro and Pro+ ship with one standard two-slot coin door; the Deluxe ships with two, one on each side of the lower cabinet.
DO THEY SUPPORT CASHLESS PAYMENT AND TICKET REDEMPTION?
Yes. Each player station includes a connector for modern cashless card systems, and eTicket redemption is supported. Note that physical ticket dispensers are not supported and do not ship with the cabinets, so redemption runs through a cashless card system.
CAN I SEE HOW THE MACHINE IS EARNING?
Yes. Audits cover button presses per player, average game time, continue rate and hours powered on, plus redemption figures such as total tickets awarded, cash in, percent paid out and average tickets per game. Real-time analytics are available online through the operator app.
Setup, Space & Power
HOW BIG ARE THE PRO AND PRO+ CABINETS?
Installed, the two-player upright is 31.125 inches wide, 29.25 inches deep and 77.75 inches tall, weighing 300 lbs. That 29.25-inch depth is deliberate, as it rolls through a standard double doorway without dismantling anything.

HOW BIG IS THE DELUXE CABINET?
Installed, the Deluxe is 51.5 inches wide, 29.5 inches deep and 81.5 inches tall, weighing 525 lbs. Measure your doorways and delivery route before ordering, as this cabinet is considerably wider than the uprights.

HOW MUCH ASSEMBLY IS REQUIRED?
Very little. The cabinets arrive fully assembled from the factory. You cut the shipping straps with a blade, remove the crate, and roll the machine into position on its factory-fitted castors. Alan-1 requires a minimum of two people for any move, which is the right call at 300 lbs for a Pro and 525 lbs for a Deluxe.
WHAT TOOLS OR CABLES DO I NEED ON DELIVERY DAY?
A blade or razor to cut the shipping straps, a small screwdriver, and a CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable only if you prefer a wired connection to WiFi. Nothing else is needed.
WHAT ARE THE POWER REQUIREMENTS?
A standard 120 VAC, 60 Hz household outlet, drawing 1.5 A in operation. Power draw runs from 20 W minimum to 105 W operating and 115 W peak. Every cabinet is ETL listed for the United States and Canada. No special wiring is required.
WHAT ARE THE OPERATING CONDITIONS?
These are indoor machines, rated for 50 F to 104 F (10 C to 40 C) and humidity below 95 percent.
Shipping, Warranty & Returns
HOW IS MY MACHINE SHIPPED?
By freight on a pallet, not by parcel carrier. The Pro and Pro+ ship at 335 lbs in a crate measuring 48 by 40 by 82.25 inches. The Deluxe ships at 600 lbs in a crate measuring 96 by 40 by 83 inches. Plan for a pallet jack or hand truck and a second person, and measure your delivery route against the crate rather than the cabinet.
HOW LONG UNTIL MY MACHINE SHIPS?
These cabinets are made to order at the Alan-1 factory, with a typical lead time of around four weeks from the date of order. We will confirm the current lead time for your specific machine after you order.
WHAT WARRANTY DO THESE MACHINES HAVE?
A 90-day limited factory warranty from the date of delivery to the original purchaser, covering defects in materials and workmanship. Software updates remain free for the life of the machine.
DO I NEED TO REGISTER THE MACHINE?
Yes, and this matters. The cabinet must be registered through the Alan-1 Operators app within 15 days of delivery to activate full warranty coverage. Registration takes a few minutes, also connects the machine to the internet, and should be done on day one. Do not skip this step.
WHAT IF MY MACHINE ARRIVES DAMAGED?
Inspect the crate carefully before signing the Bill of Lading. If the cabinet arrives visibly damaged, refuse delivery and do not sign, because signing transfers responsibility for repair costs to the receiver. If damage is found after the driver has left, keep all original packaging until the claim is resolved. Units confirmed damaged on arrival within 15 calendar days of delivery are eligible for two-way shipping coverage within the continental United States.
CAN I RETURN MY MACHINE?
Because of their size, weight and freight shipping, these cabinets are not eligible for change-of-mind returns, and made-to-order machines cannot be cancelled once production has begun. If anything is wrong, our support team handles warranty service and replacement parts. Please review your order carefully before purchasing.
