Alan-1 has been engineering licensed arcade cabinets from its factory in Tooele, Utah since 2017. The company works directly with IP holders including Atari to produce genuine, original arcade releases rather than licensed skins over generic hardware.

Asteroids Recharged Arcade Edition is the fifth Asteroids title to reach arcades, following the original 1979 Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Space Duel and Blasteroids. That lineage is real and the licence is real.

Alan-1 rebuilt this game from scratch for the arcade environment, with input from casual players and world record classic Asteroids competitors. The arcade edition plays differently from the 2021 console release.

The single feature the Pro+ adds over the standard Pro is the RGB LED T-molding. That is the entire difference between the two models, and it is worth understanding exactly what it buys you.

T-molding is the flexible trim that caps the exposed edges of an arcade cabinet, protecting them from the knocks of daily commercial life.

On the standard Pro it is passive purple trim. On the Pro+ it is replaced by a translucent channel lit from behind by addressable RGB LEDs, so the entire silhouette of the cabinet glows.

Power-ups are earned by shooting the giant purple dome UFO that appears periodically throughout play.

The full set includes Spreadburst, Tri-Burst, Bi-Way, Tri-Way, Exploding Bullets that create mini black holes on impact, Mega Laser, Orbiting Bullets, Slow Time, Rapid Fire, Trailing Bullets and the Deflector energy shield.

The ship fills with a solid colour that drains as the power-up timer counts down, so the time remaining is always visible without any on-screen text cluttering the field.

The bonus multiplier builds with each consecutive hit and resets on a miss. That one mechanic is responsible for most of the high score variance and it is the reason skilled players replay. A machine that rewards skill over time is a machine that earns repeat credits from the same player in the same session.

Physical Effects: Wind, Rumble, and a Knocker That Punches Back

When a player presses Thrust, a built-in wind blower activates inside the cabinet, pushing air across the control panel. The two rumble motors add vibration through the cabinet body on impacts and explosions. The cabinet knocker delivers a sharp physical strike timed to specific in-game events.

Alan-1 calls these toys. They are sensory feedback systems that make the game feel larger than its screen size suggests. In a quiet venue these effects draw attention from other players and pull walk-by traffic toward the machine without any additional marketing spend.

No other standard two-player upright in this class ships with wind, dual rumble and a knocker as a standard package. These effects are standard on the Pro+, not an upgrade or an accessory kit.

2.1 Channel Audio with Sub-Bass: Sound That Fills the Room

The audio system runs two upper speakers plus a lower subwoofer on a 2.1 channel configuration, driven by an internal amplifier.

Vector-style graphics replicate the look of classic arcade play, and the audio is calibrated to match that aesthetic, clean and directional at the top end, with physical sub-bass anchoring the big moments.

Voice-overs by Captain Ace, the game's guide character, comment on player performance throughout the session and add personality to the attract mode loop.

Original Five-Button Controls with LED Backlighting

The control layout replicates the original Asteroids arcade button arrangement exactly: Rotate Left, Rotate Right, Fire, Thrust and Hyperspace, one set per player, all backlit by LEDs. Alan-1 builds the cabinet with durable materials and responsive controls, rated for commercial duty.

For players who remember the original, the button arrangement is the detail they will recognise in the first thirty seconds. For new players, a layout built around the game rather than adapted to it translates directly to better scores and longer sessions.

Hyperspace jumps the ship to a random screen position as an escape option, with a small probability the ship overloads and explodes on arrival. That risk-reward calculation, hardwired into the original game, is preserved exactly here.

Major League eSports: Free Connected Tournaments That Drive Repeat Visits

The MLeS app is free on Android and iOS. Players scan the QR code displayed after pressing Start, log in and immediately have access to nationwide leaderboards, League Points toward the Alan-1 World Championships, the ability to continue from the last wave they reached, and push notifications sent to their phone when someone beats their score, naming the venue where it happened.

That last feature is the commercial argument in one sentence. A player who left the machine thirty minutes ago gets a notification naming your location. They come back.

No advertising spend, no loyalty programme administration. The machine does it automatically because it is connected to the internet for free, with no subscription required.

The separate Game Grid operator app, also free on Android and iOS, gives the operator software updates, remote component alerts, warranty registration, a full list of every MLeS player who has played that machine, and the ability to send those players custom messages including tournament invitations.

Coin Operation, Cashless Support, and Free Play Mode

The standard two-slot coin door arrives with coin mechs already fitted and preset to 25 cents, with the default configuration set to four coins per credit. Both the coin value and the credits-per-coin ratio are fully adjustable from the operator menu, and the machine can be set to free play with no hardware modification required.

Cashless operation is supported through the UCL standard, with one nine-pin UCL connector per player supplying power, ground, credit and ticket signals. This makes the machine compatible with every major modern card reader system without adapters.

Pro+ or Deluxe? Choosing the Right Cabinet for Your Venue

The Pro+ is a two-player upright. Its installed footprint is 31 1/8 inches wide, 29 1/4 inches deep and 77 3/4 inches tall, and it weighs 300 lbs.

That 29 1/4 inch depth is the figure Alan-1 calls out specifically because it means the cabinet rolls through a standard double doorway without removing doors or disassembling anything.

Deluxe vs. Pro and Pro+: Choosing the Right Cabinet for Your Location

The Asteroids Recharged line comes in three configurations. All three run the identical game with the same haptics package, the same 2.1-channel audio with subwoofer, the same MLeS connectivity, and the same eTicket redemption support. The choice between them is a floor space and throughput decision, not a feature decision.

Assembly

Assembling the Asteroids Recharged Pro+ requires no cabinet build. The machine ships fully assembled and closed, protected by plastic and foam layers around the VAS artwork that are removed before use. A blade or razor is needed to cut the shipping straps.

Before first power-up, open the rear door and verify that the internal cables are still seated after transit. Check the HDMI cable between the mainboard and monitor, the monitor power cable, the audio amplifier power cable, the speaker cables to the upper speakers and subwoofer, the USB cables between the mainboard and the I/O board, and the single edge connector from the I/O board to the control panel. This takes a few minutes and is not assembly work, but it is the step that prevents the most common post-delivery issues.

Also before powering on, confirm that the red voltage slider inside the cabinet base is set to the correct voltage for your location: 115V for US and Canada, 230V for international installations. Setting it incorrectly before power-up can cause damage not covered by the warranty.

This machine ships by freight at 335 lbs boxed. Inspect the cabinet carefully before signing the Bill of Lading. If the cabinet arrives visibly damaged, refuse delivery and do not sign, as signing transfers responsibility for repair costs to the receiver.

If damage is discovered after the driver has left, report it to us within 48 hours with photographs, and retain all original packaging until the claim is resolved.

A short 'How to playe' guide:

Warranty: 90-day limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original purchaser, covering defects in materials and workmanship on the cabinet body, control deck, wiring harnesses, power supply, Alan-1 PCB and logic boards, installed buttons, and internal speakers. Warranty service is parts and bench only. On-site service, technician travel, removal and reinstallation are not covered. Dead on arrival units confirmed within 15 calendar days of delivery are eligible for two-way shipping coverage within the continental US.
